Luz is a parish (freguesia) in the municipality (concelho) of Lagos. It was raised to a village (vila) status in 2001. The village is better known by the name of its beach Praia da Luz especially by holiday makers from UK and Ireland. Directly on the coast near the church you can find the little fortress Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Luz which has now been converted into a popular restaurant. The nicely paved promenade Avenida dos Pescadores separates the beach from the village. The long sandy beach is very popular and has excellent facilities. At its eastern end the foundations of a Roman building were found and excavated (Estação Arqueológica Romana da Praia da Luz) during some construction work. Two attractive golf courses are situated in the surroundings of Luz: Boavista Golf on the coast with marvellous views to the bay at Lagos and Espiche Golf a few kilometres inland.

18holes golf course of the Morgado do Reguengo Golf Resort north of Portimão
Location & access The estate of Herdade do Morgado de Reguengo is situated inland in the western Algarve between Portimão and Monchique, a few km away from Praia da Rocha and Alvor, north of the A22 motorway. Taking exit 5, it is only a short drive on the national road EN124 in the direction of Silves. Course The 18-holes Par 71 Álamos golf course, designed by Russell Talley, is home to four Par 5 holes, nine Par 4’s and five Par 3’s. Golfers can enjoy great views over the reservoir and the vineyard up to the Serra de Monchique in the north. Visitors are able to enjoy the views of the Algarve’s peaceful interior landscape. The undulating fairways are narrower than at Golfe do Morgado, and each hole is well delineated by native trees. The Greens are smaller compared to those of their sister course, but more undulating. Facilities and services Golfers can enjoy excellent practice facilities and the Clubhouse offers a full range of services for a perfect stay. From the southern terrace you can overlook the whole driving range and many of the eighteen holes. Noteworthy Álamos Golf is the second 18-hole course at this countryside retreat with the Monchique Mountains and the estate's vineyard as its backdrop. Together with its neighbouring course Golfe do Morgado, offers a complete challenge to your golfing skills and you are guaranteed a thorough test of your golfing abilities, coupled with some unique challenges.

Location and access The resort is situated near the coast of the western Algarve between Portimão and Alvor north of the palm tree lined dual carriageway leading from Praia da Rocha to Alvor. It is only a few kilometres drive from the national road EN125 and the A22 motorway (exit 5). Golf course The exclusive course is spread over two valleys. The meandering fairways and elevated greens are in line with Henry Cotton’s philosophy that a golf course should be testing for low handicap players but provide an enjoyable game for the ordinary club player and provide satisfaction and inspiration for beginners. The 16th hole, a Par 5 with a length of 570m, used to be the longest Par 5 in Europe when the course was inaugurated in 1992. It’s aptly named “Sir Henry’s Challenge”. Services & facilities The Alto Clubhouse is located in the heart of the resort and offers a full range of services for a perfect round of golf and an enjoyable stay. Ilha das Cabanas opposite Tavira is the most eastern of the islands of the Ria Formosa that extends from Faro to Cacela Velha east of Tavira, protecting the unique lagoon system against the rough Atlantic Ocean. The island Ilha das Cabanas stretches from Tavira to the golf course Quinta da Ria near the picturesque village of Cacela Velha. The beach Praia de Cabanas-Mar is located opposite the little village Cabanas de Tavira, which dates back to the glorious times of tuna fishing in the Algarve. The lagoon here is quite narrow and can be swum across at low tide. There is also a boat that goes from the coast to the island.

Peninsula de Cacela is the most eastern link in the chain of islands and peninsulas of the Ria Formosa that extends from Quinta do Lago west of Faro to Cacela Velha east of Tavira, protecting this unique lagoon system against the rough Atlantic Ocean The peninsula stretches from the golf course Quinta da Ria to the popular holiday destination Manta Rota. The beach Praia de Cacela Velha is accessible on foot from Manta Rota, but it is more common to take the boat trip from Sitio da Fábrica in Cacela Velha. There is no docking area or any other facilities on the peninsula, so that you can enjoy nature undisturbed.
